I hope that you are looking forward to a restful holiday season to enjoy some quality time with family and friends. For those who really don’t get to stop, please accept my thanks for the services you provide to us all.
As the 39th fall session of parliament has come to end, I've been reflecting on the significant progress we've made over our two terms in government. One area where our government can improve, however, is in how we communicate decisions and explain the benefits to you and your family.
There were three issues this year where we needed to communicate closely with the public: the transition to a single sales tax, switching hydro rates to time-of-use, and the eco fees. These changes were implemented to address immediate and foreseeable long-term problems.
Long-term goals often require change today, and our government is proud to have a vision that extends beyond the next election.
While the opposition might criticize these decisions, they have failed to explain what they would do differently if elected.
This year I will continue to do my best to keep you informed about the decisions your government is making and how these decisions impact you and your family.
I'd encourage you to read this article from the North Bay Nugget , which speaks to the challenges our government has been faced with recently as we work to create more jobs and to improve the quality of life for Ontarians.
Moving forward, we will do our best to communicate our decisions with
you and how they support the interests of the public. If you ever feel
that we haven't been clear enough, please call me. I will always make
time to talk.
I'd like to wish you all a very happy holidays and a prosperous 2011.
All the best,
