E-newsletter February 20, 2009

In this issue: Labour Update, Black History Month, Opportunities Fair, Skating Party

Hi Everyone,

In the last e-newsletter I wrote to you about a proposal the government made to the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario and the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association. I am happy to report that both sides have agreed to the proposal. This is a significant milestone as all federations representing teachers and support staff now have a provincial framework agreement in place.

Last Thursday I was honoured to be joined by Bernice Carnegie of the Future Aces Foundation and Flemo City Media to celebrate Black history month at the Dennis Timbrell Resource Centre. One of the highlights of the event was an excellent dance and drum performance by students from Grenoble Public School. I want to thank everyone at the celebration, the performers and Bernice Carnegie for providing fantastic motivational words to the youth in attendance. For more information about the Future Aces Foundation, please visit their website at .

There are also some upcoming events happening in the riding that I would like to share with you.

On Saturday, February 28th I’m holding an Opportunities Fair at the Dennis Timbrell Community Centre (29 St. Dennis Drive) from 2:00 pm-4:00 pm. This fair is open to anyone in Don Valley West and is a great way to learn about government employment initiatives, starting your own business and other job and volunteer opportunities. Representatives from local community colleges and various educational organizations will also be present. Remember to bring your resume or take part in a resume clinic to better prepare you for your job search!

I’m also hosting a Free Community Family Skate on Thursday, March 19th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Flemingdon Arena (165 Grenoble Drive). This is a great way to celebrate the end of winter and to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate with your neighbours. Skates will be available on a limited basis.

As always, feel free to contact my constituency office at 416-425-6777 if you have any questions.

All the best,

Keep in Mind...
